What tax rates are used?
We use the official 2024/2025 UK tax rates: Personal allowance £12,570, Basic rate 20%, Higher rate 40%, Additional rate 45%.
How is National Insurance calculated?
Class 1 NI: 12% on earnings between £12,570-£50,270, then 2% above that. Employer NI is not deducted from your salary.
What about pension contributions?
Pension contributions are deducted pre-tax, reducing your taxable income. Most workplace pensions are around 5% employee contribution.
Which student loan plan am I on?
Plan 1: Started before Sept 2012. Plan 2: Started Sept 2012 onwards (most common). Plan 4: Scotland. Postgraduate: Masters/PhD loans.
